Skip Heller Trio, Majestika at The Flying Monkey,
Huntsville, Alabama August 2006

Great performances by Majestika and the Skip Heller Trio at the Flying Monkey Arts Center on August 18, 2006. They took to the stage just a few short hours after Tom DeLay got indicted, amusing Skip to no end. This was also a good opportunity for me to test the limits of Nikon's 18-70 zoom lens.

A warm evening, and Tina's is cooking right outside the Mill before the show.

Majestika performing on the first-floor stage. Like a lot of club spaces, the lighting is mind-boggling. Well, at least it boggled me. And the camera. Yeahhh, that's right, blame the equipment.

Either of these two groups are MANDATORY when they come to your town. Skip and Rita performed together for a few songs, this one on a stage apparently lit by a Colour Out of Space. The verdict on the lens: guilty. It's a great all-purpose zoom but just not fast enough for these venues. A 50 mm f/1.8 is a better choice.
