Madison County Nature TrailArtist's StatementI'm Corry Lee Smith, from Huntsville, Alabama. Like many accomplished artists, writers, and serial killers, I live in the South and go by three names. Statisticians assure me that is merely a coincidence. I come from a long line of bad photographers. I was actually relieved to learn this after looking at my ancestors in family albums. For years I thought I was genetically destined to become blurry when I got older. I overcame this heritage when I entered the web development field in the late 1990s. Customers wanting product photos for commercial web sites prompted me to invest in digital camera gear. Taking glamour shots of electronic components honed my basic skills and soon I was carrying a camera everywhere. I was born to a technical life; I'm shocked to realize how much I like exploring the world through photography. I'm self-taught so far, but I'm quite aware of my strengths and weaknesses, and want to improve every day. I try to record the unusual perspective and light by any means necessary, from digital infrared to pinhole. My most satisfying images are less an act of creation and more an act of discovery.
